Talahib @ Coco Beach Puerto Galera

by Jec Chua

I always go to Talahib's regular gigs around the metro and being one of their constant followers made me realize one thing; when you go out to see this band perform better keep in mind that you must expect the unexpected.

Talahib's performance at the 25th Anniversary of the magnificent Coco Beach at Puerto Galera was a milestone for me. The audience was not aware before the show started what these guys can bring in to the table until they started playing. The night was opened by Tapati and Burn Belacho's acoustic number serving as the right appetizer enticing the palettes of mostly made up of foreign guest at the resort. Followed by an outstanding performance by a local reggae band in Mindoro, the crowd has been hyped up ready to hear Talahib's performance clueless of what they are going to be into once they hear the band perform.

Hanging around with the audience at the front stage with my friend Muffet, we were pulled to stand up by the opening song "Babaylan". The crowd was imbued by the song and like what I said opening this blog post to expect what is the unexpected in their performances, that night's performance was no exception. The songs played features an unprecedented collection of wonderful wordplay, outstanding ethnic percussion, exotic strings combined with the modern rhythms. It was another remarkable and stand out night for Talahib and I am so proud and happy to be there and witness it.

Looking around this wonderful place and hearing astounding music in the background is really perfect that I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. Bathing with Talahib's music it is definitely worth the bumpy ride reaching this place!
