Oldboy - Korean Film Festival

by Ruru Pilapil

The Korean Film Festival held at Shang has officially started.

"The festival opens with Oldboy (Park Chan-Wook, 2003). Director Park Chan-Wook is easily the most internationally renowned Korean filmmaker, and this movie is the reason why. Oldboy is loosely based on a Japanese Manga, telling the story of a man (played by the amazing Choi Min-Suk) who is abducted one night and is kept in a secret private prison. He finally escapes after 15 years, and he tries to piece together who abducted him and why, usually getting his answers at the end of a bloody hammer. The movie is the second film in Park’s vengeance trilogy, but it’s the easiest one to get into, featuring the tightest plotting and the most visceral images, along with a twist that might get many audiences gasping."

They're absolutely right with that gasping thing, I'm so impressed. Breathtaking. A very unique plot, that I don't think a normal film maker can think of. So if you have time, try to catch this film, all the stress and stiffness that you may feel while watching this movie is all worth it. Trust me. But you might lose your appetite after, haha.

"Be it a grain of sand or rock, in water, they both sink the same"

"Even though I'm no more than a monster - don't I, too, have the right to live?"
- Dae-su Oh played by actor Min-sik Choi

The Festival runs until the 29th of September. For movie scheds, kindly click the link above. Enjoy! :-D

Special thanks to Uchie, a close friend from the korean embassy for giving me free Festival Passes. *hugs*
